Who we are

Well, ok, who I am. My name is Alex Mati. I run a one man show called Mati Metal Works (MMW).

My passion for machining started young when my dad purchased a Harbor Freight mill/drill and built a CNC conversion for it. I can’t remember how old I was when I started running it on my own, but I spent many, many hours out there throughout my youth building whatever cool idea popped into my head next.

I’ve spent my entire career in the engineering world. After graduating from the Colorado School of Mines with a bachelors in mechanical engineering, my wife and I moved up to Washington state for about a year and a half where I worked at a company called Electroimpact. They specialized in building aerospace manufacturing tooling for companies like Boeing and SpaceX. Here I got to work with some amazingly talented engineers and learned many essential skills related to design and manufacture of machined components.

Ultimately Colorado drew us home. I had the privilege to spend the next 7 years designing, programming, and building machines from start to finish for a battery startup in Louisville, CO called Solid Power. As an automation engineer, much of my job was focused on precision inline inspection solutions, but I also had the opportunity to help with a number of material handling and other process specific problems.

Now, it’s time for a new chapter. I love building things, and I want to focus more of my time on doing the fun part: designing and fabricating!
